Rule 2, section 10B Jewelry The national rule book puts the onus on the game official who, in their judgment, deem exposed jewelry unsafe. In order to have a consistent position on this matter, five years ago, the Oklahoma USSSA Executive Board established the following interpretation concerning the jewelry rule:
Any jewelry that is exposed (belly button rings and tongue studs are not considered to be exposed) such as, but not limited to, ear rings and/or post type studs must be removed in order for the player to participate in the USSSA slow pitch softball program. It was further established that taping over rings/studs was NOT sufficient to meet this established policy.
Oklahoma USSSA believes it is better to err on the side of safety than take the chance on player safety. The intention of the rule has always been a matter of safety and therefore we have set this policy. Mike Hensley Oklahoma USSSA State Director
